Plate 11 of André Roubo's 18th-century masterpiece "L'Art du Menuisier" shows an interior view of the shop of the craftsman ("Vue Interieure de la Boutique d'un Menuisier," as it says atop the cross of the page). The lower half of the plate serves as a design reference for the many Roubo-style workbenches built by Popular Woodworking Magazine Editor Christopher Schwarz and staff, and the upper half is chock-full of thought-provoking items displayed on the benches and walls of the circa 1760 French shop. The detail is tremendous, and there are plenty of woodworking lessons still to be learned as we decipher it. And, it's simply a great-looking engraving. So we've reproduced Plate 11 as an 18"x24" poster on heavy cream-colored paper with crisp black detail. It's perfect for hanging in your woodworking shop – or build a suitable picture frame and hang it in your study.
